Welcome to Bird & Bird
With 30 fully integrated offices around the world and over 1,350 lawyers, we are truly international in our outlook. We work for some of the biggest and best known global brands, on some of the most interesting and challenging legal matters around.
In Australia, our lawyers work in Commercial, Competition & Consumer, Corporate, Dispute Resolution, Employment, Finance, Intellectual Property, Projects & Infrastructure and Real Estate. But we have principally organised ourselves into industry sector groups for over 20 years – so a lot of our work is done by cross-practice groups. Our lawyers work in a practice group covering a particular legal discipline/specialisation and typically focus on at least one sector group, gaining depth of expertise as a specialist lawyer with strong, practical, industry knowledge.
We win many awards and accolades here in Australia and across the world; Asia Women in Business Law Awards, Australia (2018, 2016, 2015), IP Firm of the Year (2018, 2017), and most recently we have been announced as winner of the Australasian Lawyer Employer Choice (2019). We were also thrilled that a recent independent survey, conducted by Acritas, involving interviews with more than 1000 in-house lawyers, ranked Bird & Bird as one of the world’s top 20 elite law firm brands.
believe in remaining grounded, friendly, collegiate and collaborative – here
and across all borders. We call this our
“One Firm Culture”.
Your clerkship with Bird & Bird
A clerkship with Bird & Bird is just the start of your exciting legal journey with one of the world’s best international law firms. Our clerkship is the main pathway into our graduate and associate programme. Throughout your legal journey you will experience early exposure to high profile matters with leading national and international clients.
You will have rotations as a clerk, paralegal, and associate, you will have ongoing access to buddies, mentors and supervising partners and will be given opportunities to develop your professional connections through collaboration with your global peers. More importantly, you will have access to experience and contribute to our firm values by supporting initiatives such as Diversity & Inclusion, Volunteering & Pro bono, Environment & Sustainability, and Innovation.
Each year, we invite applications from law students in the penultimate year of their legal studies to participate in the Bird & Bird Summer Clerkship Programme in Australia, which is conducted as part of the programme currently co-ordinated by the Law Society of NSW.
Our Summer Clerk Committee (consisting of Partners, Senior Associates and/or HR team) will personally read every application that is submitted, often several times over, without the use of any automatic culling methods. While this process takes slightly longer, it ensures we provide every applicant with an equal chance of success.
