Clayton Utz Intervarsity Women in Law Conference
April 17, 2021 @ 10:00 am – 12:30 pm
In collaboration with UNSW and SULS, UTS Law Students’ Society is proud to announce the annual Intervarsity Women In Law Conference for 2021 sponsored by Clayton Utz. With inspiring speakers and panellists from diverse professional backgrounds, this conference is designed to provide women with an insight into the legal world from a female perspective and the opportunity to network with one another.
The event will include the following two panels:
Panel 1: Lifting the bar to career progression
Although the legal profession has shifted progressively toward gender equality, the representation, employment and career progression of women has arguably been undermined by certain barriers.
This panel will examine the legal and social responses to these barriers in light of revelations concerning sexual harassment, the blurred ‘work-life’ boundaries created by the pandemic, and the personal experiences of our distinguished panellists.
Panel 2: Feminist Jurisprudence
In the first part of this panel, we will endeavour to discover what feminist jurisprudence
means. Then, we invite our panellists to discuss the issues they have encountered in law,
and how feminist jurisprudence can translate into legal practice. Ultimately, this panel will
highlight the importance of understanding if and how feminism impacts our understanding
of the law and the legal profession.
