Thanks to the generous support from our sponsors, UTS Law Students’ Society is able to facilitate enriching law school experiences for our members.

These are the firms that make UTS Law Students’ Society possible. We aim to create a balanced university experience for our members, and in doing so, we help students transition from an academic environment to a career in the legal industry. If your company is interested in engaging with bright and promising law students, please reach out to our Vice-President (Sponsorships), Chloe Ferreira, at vps@utslss.com.

Think Global, Think Baker McKenzie!

Baker McKenzie invented the global law firm – so we’re different in the way we think, work and behave. Our story is one of imagination, determination and hard work. We’ve followed clients into new markets, establishing offices driven by local lawyers and talent. And our growth has been organic, giving us a strong, common culture throughout our network of 72 offices in 45 countries.

Our unique culture, developed over 77 years, enables our 13,000+ people to understand local markets and navigate multiple jurisdictions, working together as trusted colleagues and friends to instil confidence in our clients. We also understand the challenges of the global economy because we’ve been a global law firm from the start.

Our People Experience, a key component of our strategy, is about delivering the best employee experience to enable one high-performing, global team to serve our clients. We offer our people access to market-leading, cross-border, local, and industry-focused matters for leading multinational/domestic clients. We understand our clients’ businesses, industries and strategic objectives and work with them to overcome the challenges of competing in the global economy. We have an unrivalled ability to provide training and secondment opportunities across our global network, and are committed to engaging with our communities too. Inclusion, diversity and equity are foundational to our culture and strategic vision – and we have an inclusive culture of learning, coaching and opportunity, where you undertake work in small teams across multiple geographies with clients and colleagues.

K&L Gates Clerkship Program

K&L Gates is unlike many other global legal firms, we operate a fully integrated law firm with one central financial system, IT network and global practice groups and support teams.

On your first day, you will participate in a comprehensive induction to help you get acquainted with the firm and our IT systems. Your learning does not stop there. Throughout the clerkship program, you will attend additional training sessions to further develop your skills.

You will not be navigating this journey alone. Your supervisor and buddy will be there to support you as you participate in your two structured rotations across our core practice areas. You will also have the chance to collaborate closely with partners, special counsel, senior associates, and other lawyers within your team, offering you a fantastic opportunity to build strong professional relationships both within your
immediate team and across the wider firm network.

At K&L Gates, we foster a collaborative culture where growth and development are encouraged. We are also deeply committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone’s contributions are valued. We are excited for you to join us and look forward to supporting you every step of the way.

Life at K&L Gates

Clerks will have the chance to get involved in a diverse range of real client work, everything from attending mediations and conferences to drafting research memos and engaging in pro bono projects. There is a calendar full of social and networking activities to help you connect with colleagues.

For those looking to truly stand out, we encourage you to approach each task with enthusiasm and a genuine willingness to learn. Practice Groups also play a big part in fostering a welcoming atmosphere by including clerks in their own social gatherings. You will find that lawyers throughout the firm are always happy to grab a coffee and chat with clerks, creating a supportive and friendly environment.

On the community side, we strongly encourage our lawyers to engage in pro bono legal representation and to get involved in charitable, educational, professional, and community activities. Clerks may also have the chance to participate in these meaningful initiatives which can be a rewarding aspect of the program.

In Australia we have an established Innovation Committee that brings together people from across all areas of our firm. We undertake reviews of best practice innovation globally, and oversee pilots and roll-outs of new technology, regular training and testing new ideas as they are launched.

We are proud members of the Diversity Council of Australia, Pride in Diversity, Asian Australian Lawyers Association and Victorian Women Lawyers.
