2026 UTS LSS Sparke Helmore Lawyers Advice Writing Competition Registrations Close
2026 UTS LSS Sparke Helmore Lawyers Advice Writing Competition Registrations Close
February 15, 2026
What is Advice Writing?
Advice Writing involves the individual submission of advice for a client’s legal problem. This is a highly practical competition, replicating a skill needed by all lawyers in practice.
How does the competition work?
Competitors will receive a letter seeking advice and must submit a letter in response, addressing the client’s questions and concerns.
There is a strict maximum word limit of 2000 words, including footnotes and headings. As such, competitors can write as much or as little as they want within the word limit – so long as the advice adequately addresses the client’s concerns.
Who can apply?
All UTS Law Students are strongly encouraged to apply! This competition is purely reliant on research and does not require any prior knowledge or completion of a law subject.
What if I have further questions?
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our Director of Written Skills, Ayesha Virk at writtenskills@utslss.com.
